Vera Cavallin, was born in Italy to a biologist father and a teacher mother. She studied piano and harp in Italy and later pursued music composition in Belgium, where she now lives. Vera also holds a master’s degree in contemporary history and a certificate in cartography, reflecting her multifaceted passions. As a harpist, she performed around the globe with various ensembles in venues as diverse as the Opera House in Dubai, Café Oto in London, the Sakakini Cultural Center in Ramallah, and the Rewire Festival in The Hague. Her musical interests span late- Renaissance works, contemporary classical compositions, and experimental music, all intertwined with a profound passion for recording the natural world’s sounds. Sometimes these sounds converge; at other times, they don't. For several years, Vera has devoted her free time to exploring the wildlife around her as an amateur naturalist and sound recordist. Between 2023 and 2024, she lived in the Sierra Leonean jungle, working as chief ranger at a rescue center for western chimpanzees. During this time, she collected a handful of sound samples, an experience that inspired the creation of terrasonica. Vera is the founder and artistic director of the concert series S M O G, in Brussels.
